Welcome and Hello

At Birrabine Miigay, we envision empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and communities to heal, grow, and thrive; through the transformative power of connection to cultural, art, and using evidence-based health promotional tools.

Our vision is to create opportunities where social and emotional well-being is nurtured through our culturally safe programs, engaging workshops, community events coordination, art for healing, and through motivational speaking.

Our aim is to inspire others to embrace resilience, self-expression, emotional growth, well-being and improve quality of life.

We invite you to connect with us in this journey of empowerment and healing—together, we can build a stronger, more connected future.

Our Services

We support individuals and communities through culturally safe social and emotional well-being programs and workshops using combined evidence-based health promotional tools and local cultural knowledge. We work together with existing health and social professionals in our local community to offer a holistic and professional service.

Our focus is to offer products and resources that are not only affordable but also deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, which are essential for nurturing social and emotional well-being.

We draw upon our professional skills in Indigenous health promotion, event management, and local cultural knowledge and strong relationships with our partners to create impactful events, programs, and workshops that foster social and emotional well-being.

Our founder and director

Widhow illijain Yindi / Hello, how are you?

My name is Edwina Braddick, but please call me Eddie. I am a Gammēya-Ḏharrawal meegay (woman) with connection to Dhurga language, both belonging to the Yuin Nation along the South Coast of NSW. I am a mother, daughter, sister, cousin, friend, and a strong advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people having equitable access to social and emotional wellbeing support across Australia.

How Birrabine Miigay Began

Birrabine Miigay has been growing within me since I was a young girl. Like many, I have experienced my share of hardship — trauma, grief, and the many ups and downs of life. Yet through it all, I have always carried optimism and resilience. Even at 13 years old, I realised that my personality, my way of seeing the world, and my determination to help others were different from many around me.

Opportunities to stay connected to culture, combined with my lived experiences, have shaped who I am and the work I do. While studying my Graduate Diploma in Indigenous Health Promotion at the University of Sydney, I developed my own research program focusing on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adolescent females through challenges with social and emotional wellbeing. This journey strengthened my skills, knowledge, and purpose. I now walk with tools grounded in evidence-based practice and cultural safety, guided by culture, Elders, and lived experience.

Why Birrabine Miigay Exists

My hope is that Birrabine Miigay will inspire and uplift others — helping people connect, believe in their own strengths, and recognise their capacity to grow, heal, and evolve.

Why “Birrabine Miigay”?

Birrabine Miigay means “Emu Woman” in my traditional Gammēya-Ḏharrawal language. I proudly carry the Emu spirit as part of who I am.

I honour my incredible mother, known in our community as Aunty Mish, who has taught me to live with strength, love, and creativity. I hold deep love for my beautiful grandmother, Mirriam Braddick (née Chapman).

I honour my great-grandmother, Lena Chapman (née Carpenter), whose strength and resilience helped language endure despite the impacts due to colonialism. I extend my appreciation to my Uncle Warren Morris and my Dhjah Dhjah (brothers), Jacob Morris and Joel Deaves — dedicated language holders who continue importance of restoration in culture and language for generations to come.

What Birrabine Miigay Stands For

Birrabine Miigay is a growing initiative — rooted in culture, compassion, and collective strength. Its purpose is to build relationships, strengthen existing programs, and create opportunities that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to live with dignity, wellbeing, and cultural pride.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. If this is your first encounter with Birrabine Miigay, please remember: you matter, your stories, and your strength are alive within you — and by honouring them, we all grow stronger together.
